Never heard of any swimming prohibition - there's one guy doing the Vogalonga swimming each year, and this year I saw people swimming around the boats at the Redentore.

Isn't there a prohibition against swimming in the canals? ... and since there's a much higher probability of swimming with SUP, how is the prohibition resolved?

...From a guy who easily falls out of a canoe. :)

Hi Tamas,

I think we were some 50m from the closest platform, and between 100-150m from the others. It wasn't scary.

Last year we had ash from the fireworks raining down on our heads :-)

Thanks for the praise.

Incredible photography! Amazing. And scary. The trajectories appear so close!

(This year the height of the bombards was reduced to limit shockwave exposure to the historic buildings, so this is probably the Redentore firework that was closest to the people, ever. I wonder if I would have freaked out on-site?)

As always when kayaking, safety rule #1 is "know your waters".

That sounds fascinating. Have visited Venice in the spring and oftern thought it would be wonderful to paddle a sea kayak there. However have noticed too the busy-ness of many of the waterways and the apparent violence of the waves in a breeze (where thr gondolas are moored off St Mark's square for example.)
As a very average paddler who has come late to the joys of seakayaking would love to paddle in Venice and among the Islands one day. Would be interested in any information you might have?

Beautiful idea! Even more amazing ... the windows are clean enough to make reflections. So often, they are not.

Thanks for all the pics!
